Celebrating AAPI Heritage.

116 Limited t-shirt club

116 Limited is Reach Record’s monthly t-shirt drop.

Every month, Reach Records partners with an artist to reimagine the 116 logo on a new shirt that goes out to hundreds of fans. For AAPI heritage month, they commissioned me to create a design that honored my faith and cultural identity.

Problem

The surge in anti-Asian hate crimes brought mainstream attention to the Asian American experience. Reach needed a meaningful and authentic way to stand in solidarity with the AAPI community.

Solution

An illustrative t-shirt design that reimagined the iconic 116 logo through the lens of Chinese culture, delivered to fans’ homes during Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

A dragon—a symbol of Chinese culture in the West—doubles as the S in the 116 logo, reimagining Reach’s iconic logo through the lens of my cultural heritage.

2,000+ hand-placed points, 300+ paths, and 3,000+ bezier handles make up an illustration that pays homage to the detailed craftsmanship of traditional Chinese art.

The Instagram post of this artwork also garnered record engagement on Reach Records’ account—likes, comments, shares, and saves reached an all-time high with this art.

Edward is SO DOPE! I appreciate his desire to make something both honorable and accessible, and I think he killed it! Overall, this is personally one of the more exciting 116 Limited designs I’ve seen in a while. Great work!
